PSX trading hours: regular market sessions explained

A clear guide to PSX regular-market phases on Monday–Thursday and Friday, in Pakistan time, and what each session state means.

PSX regular-market hours are not one continuous session. The published schedule separates pre-open order entry, an order-matching break, regular trading and (on most listed schedule days) a post-close session. All times below are Pakistan Standard Time (PKT). Monday–Thursday has one regular session; Friday has two. PSX notices can temporarily change the baseline, so check the Exchange’s current schedule and any dated notice before relying on a time.

Regular market at a glance (PKT)
Monday–Thursday 09:32–15:30 One regular open session
Friday 09:17–12:00 First regular open session
Friday 14:32–16:30 Second regular open session
Before open Pre-open → break Order entry and matching are distinct states

Monday–Thursday schedule

Pre-open09:15–09:30Orders are entered before regular trading opens.
Break: order matching and confirmation09:30–09:32The opening match is processed before the open session.
Open09:32–15:30Regular trading activity.

Friday schedule

Open09:17–12:0014:32–16:30
Post-close—16:35–16:50

The midday interval separates Friday’s two regular open sessions. The morning close at 12:00 is not the end of the day’s second session; the afternoon pre-open and matching phases come before trading resumes at 14:32.

What each state means

Pre-open is order entry, not regular trading. PSX’s schedule says orders entered in pre-open cannot be cancelled, modified or suspended until the break period ends. The current Regulations describe the break as the period in which the opening price is calculated and pre-open orders are matched and confirmed. After that break, the open session begins regular trading. They also say that any unfilled pre-open orders retain their time priority into the trading session.

Post-close is a separate scheduled phase. The regular open session ends at 15:30 Monday–Thursday and at 16:30 on Friday. The schedule lists post-close separately, beginning five minutes later. Those times do not extend the regular open session.

Other markets have their own schedules. The PSX page lists the Negotiated Deals Market (NDM) separately from the Regular Market. An NDM window is not an extension of the regular open session, and its hours are outside this guide. For the distinction between the Exchange’s market types, see PSX market types explained.

Treat the table as a baseline

The hours above are the regular schedule currently published by PSX, not a promise that every date follows it. For example, PSX/N-209 dated 18 February 2026 announced a temporary Ramadan schedule and stated that the regular timings would resume after Ramadan unless otherwise notified. Check the current PSX trading-hours page and relevant dated Exchange notices for schedule changes. This guide does not infer which dates are holidays or whether the market is open on a particular date.

Knowing the live state matters: order entry, opening matching, regular trading and post-close are different phases with different functions. A time printed beside “market” is incomplete unless it identifies which phase it means.

For company-level research, continue to the PSX companies hub. Session hours describe when a market phase is scheduled; they do not establish whether a trade fits a risk limit. The position-size calculator handles sizing arithmetic as a separate step.
